Very funny stuff - great writing style and how come I couldn't find a mchien for $10 when I was looking? Seriously.... please send some updates as you become sucked into the vortex known as the "black hole of espresso hobbyists" - it ain't lonely in here but there's plenty of room for more entertaining and engaging souls.

Great article! Very enjoyable!
As for the amount of information on espresso, it took me at least 6 months of reading alt.coffee, CoffeeGeek, etc, before I was able to stop feeling overwhelmed by the amount of information out there. That doesn't mean you can stop reading after that. No Sire! The fun thing about espresso is that it has enough variables (blend, grinding, tamping, type of pump, roasting level, freshness, water temp, etc) that you can learn new things and experiment as long as you desire.

Great article. I almost come from the reverse position. 'Coffee? Isn't that espresso + water in a big cup?' No. 'Espresso? No-one can make espresso at home. It needs a degree, a La Marzocco and an Italian heritage' No again.

An easy and enjoyable read. I am currently searching for meaning in coffee and have stumbled into the espresso realm a few times, but overwhelmed with it's complexity, I have to climb out and contiue to leaf through the many layers of coffee as my first area of focus. However, I look forward to my fall into the world of espresso next. Great article! -Dania
