Nice article Alan. I just wish there were events like this here in the Eastern US (not sure if they have them elsewhere in the States). I've been plannign an '04 trip to Australia and New Zealand - maybe I'll just have to time it with the annual occurrence of this event!

the first espresso machine I bought was a sunbeam, 2nd hand in 1996. It was made in italy. seriously underpowered pump, but i could make an ok cup out of it.

Nice article Alan. It's great to see that the competition is getting hotter in the coffee captial of Australia. However, what happened to the barista of the year competition? I'd love to see an "Independant" competition to showcase our masters and encourage newbies (and their employers) to take the job seriously.
