This is great perspective on what coffee means to many people around the world. While we worry about whether our water is 198 degrees or 199, and whether it's time to clean our expensive espresso machines, many around the world rely on coffee (or products like it) for their very existence. Thanks for this look at one such story.

I know that commercial endorsements are not normally part of CoffeeGeek articles, but in this case a link to a way of buying the beans or finding out more would be useful and in the article's spirit.

Terry hasn't put his "public" email address into the system (Terry! shame!), but you can email him at coffeecontact@yahoo.com for more ordering info on these beans.

The new crop of beans were ready by February, I have had samples which were very good. There was a Medical clinic scheduled to occur in March at which time the arrangements for shipping of the beans were to take place. Because of political violence in the area, the clinic was postponed. The good news is that the beans are waiting in Jacmel and the producers have been paid. As soon as it is safe (relativly speaking) the clinic will be held, everyone is expecting the beans to come to Canada soon. You will be able to order this coffee from Down East Coffee Roasters - roasters@nbnet.nb.ca If there are questions about the project, interest for using this coffee for fundraising, or for a few bags of commercial green beans, e-mail me and I will put you in touch with Pastor Paul at New Millenium Coffee.

A great article. I hope Mr. Montague will follow up this article with a progress report on the growers of Jacmel and maybe a unofficial blind cupping to generate some more interest for the growers.
