Thanks Rob
There's a lot more to come, including some additions to Day 1 and 2 - we're trying to sort thru photography. I've been going through it pretty much since I woke up this morning, and haven't stopped yet.
So if you read Day 1 or 2, make sure you come back in another day or two - there'll be more content interespersed within.

Hey Mark Too bad I never got the chance to meet you... First SCAA for me and it was awesome!!! It was like being in "Dreamland" for "tech-geek" Barista like me.
Mark when you say: "the PBTC can call the manager over and say "hey, we have to change the grinder". Nice. I don't know of any other machine that does that." about the Elektra. Did you see the Della-Corte new machine/grinder combo? Check it out it does that and more!!
I'll be stoping in Portland, Seattle and Vancouver before driving back home (Canmore). Maybe we could meet... I'll probably spend some time at Wicked (We use Intelly at our shop) I'd really like to meet you if possible.
As always, Thank you for great reports, specially those technicals one ;-)

I did see the combo in Bern, but, while it was very impressive, it wasn't very polished or end user friendly at that time. Have things changed? The thing that struck me most about Elektra's package is that it's complete - polished, usability is thru the roof, and of all things, the machine is very polite!
I'm a huge UI fan and appreciator, so that really struck a chord with me.

Mark,
Well I didn't get to play with the Elektra... The Della-Corte can be connected to a laptop via usb and with their software you can see all parameters of every shots plus all malfunctions and which parts to look at but the best is the integation with the grinder. It is connected to the grinder and communicate with it and the grinder will adjust itself for the perfect shot!!! Of course the variables of the said "perfect shot" are input by the user. So let's say you pour a shot in 20 sec. but it is set to 23sec. then the grinder will adjust itself! And serviceability wise, a tech could connect to your database (the software I mentionned earlier) via internet and analyse any problem you're having. I didn't check toroughly the software, I'm no computer geek at all so I don't know how it tell to the grinder how much adjustment it need etc. But what I've seen and tried was pretty amazing specially for a multiple shops or chain owner he can see on the fly (via internet) all his machines "how they are doing". That IMO is a big step forward for machine manufacturers. You should try to get those guys to host a jam with this machine. I wouldn't miss that for anything in the world.

P.S. I'm enjoying Dolce at Vivace right now ;-) should be in Vancouver tonight.

Does anyone know whether final results and scores for all competing baristi have been posted. Could not find anything on the SCAA site. Heard that results were really tight...Thanks.
Mark - nice job with the day 2 writeup and the additional photos both here and on flickr. Also really commend you for the latest response on Coffeed to the "event coverage" issue - sounds like there is a group jelling that will brainstorm about what is possible for next year. Really cool!

"Check your dosage, coarse grind" is not something new from Elektra. The Nuova Simonelli Aurelia VIP has had it for years! Yep I know that but this one is actually connected to the grinder and the grinder will adjust itself depending on the data sent by the machine. That to me is new an "way of the future" ;-)
