This current coffee offerings is the sort of thing I really appreciate. I love trying new coffees and there are so many to pick from that it's always a treasure to get comments about new (to me) coffees from the CG people I know and love. Of course some folks have similar tastes as me and some different so it's always a good thing to hear "real life" impressions as opposed to cupping notes from professional cuppers.
Of course, interesting new brewwers and news bytes are always fun too... :-))

Th brewit is a rebranded Abid design from Taiwan, The paper filter version is much better than the screened version but I haven't seen it in north america.

I bought a "Brewt" last winter at a local grocery store, same design only it was made entirely of clear plastic and branded as a BonJour coffee maker. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but I've never been able to get a very good cup of coffee out of it. So for the last few months, it's been languishing on the shelf in the laundry room collecting dust. After reading the column, I cleaned it up and tried again but still wasn't very happy with the results.
I almost didn't list this one, because while it's an adventurous, admirable experiment in an espresso blend, on its own, it didn't really appeal to my taste "likes" in espresso. To explain this further, this is a very citrusy acidic blend - think sweet lemonade. It was also a difficult blend to dial in. But here's why I think it is special, and worth trying (and you should try quick, since there's only 250 bags of it!): This is an experiment pairing espresso with something... and that something is a cigar. And let me tell you... it works.
does this mean you've crossed over to the dark side of bright espresso? maybe even single origin? ha! i have a very lemony yirg i'm working through right now (as press) and recently had an intensely cigar-noted blend (as espresso) from acme in seaside, california. by far the most tobacco-laden espresso i've ever had -- and quite enjoyable.

My friends and I debated which direction to go for our coffee website, and finally we decided to focus on the fun side of coffee. Point ratings are interesting, but coffee taste is ultimately individual, so you have to try different things to dial in what you personally like. And different coffees are optimized for different things: straight espresso, drip coffee, mixing coffee with milk. Even shelf life! I'd like to give a hug to Illy for saving me on a miserable trip to the East Coast last week. They're a big company but they manage a decent espresso blend that can be shipped and sit. I never thought I'd be greatful for that!
