Wow, your little TINY mention of Calgary reads almost exactly like another blog I read last summer:
"Sadly, my jaunt through Calgary would be ill-timed to make a planned meeting at Phil & Sebastian, despite trying to get Sebastian on the phone just before they closed up at the Calgary Farmer's Market for the day... apparently the guys are rocking Hines coffee on a LaMarzocco and Clovering other delights. Too bad Calgary sucked so much otherwise, this probably would have elevated my opinion! Next time (if there is one)..."
Very diplomatic of you to change the "Calgary sucked" for this cut-and-paste. Very insulting of you to come into Calgary on a Saturday afternoon, have some execrable coffee in Kensington and not even spend one night here to sample anything else.

No, you insulted it by saying that it sucked ("sucked so much," in fact- let's hear some more about that). You needed that explained? And you don't think there's anything wrong with spending ONE AFTERNOON in a city and then deriding it like this?
And you got in on a Friday- so you couldn't stay ONE FREAKING NIGHT, hit P&S and maybe Bumpy's and Java Jamboree the next day?

Jesus God mate, give her a break. I'm not sure if you realize this trip was not solely dedicated to validating the coffee scenes of various cities, nor was her schedule prioritized around reviewing coffee or cafes. The fact that Liz even took the time to do this on the tour is far more than most people do to contribute to the awareness of Canadian specialty coffee. Indeed, the only mention of Calgary "sucking" is in your reply, not her column as it's published.
The reality of the situation is even the best cafes can be inconsistent, and faulting the a reviewer for noticing that is an interesting approach that I hadn't really thought of before (but I will the next time somebody criticizes my espresso). Faulting somebody for not having the funds nor time to spend x amount of time in Calgary to reiterate what everyone reading CG already knows - that Calgary's coffee scene is blossoming enviously - is ludicrous.
People like Liz are responsible for spreading the word about good coffee, and without them places like Calgary and Montreal wouldn't be near where they are now. That's worth thinking about.

I also love how her during her stop in Winnipeg, Liz simply heard that she wouldn't miss much from the local coffee shops, so she simply just didn't go. A fantastic way to wrap up a Prairie Coffee Adventure; by not going to any shops in a province because of hear-say that they aren't any good. Great journalism.
