We can only hope that Illy will continue to make meaningful contributions to the world of coffee in his absence.  If the rumors that the company has been taken over by CCA are true, this might be a bit much to expect. Trieste's newspaper has several reports: The surprise of his death, Illy's pursuit of coffee through science, one of his most recent public speeches on coffee, comments from the mayor and business leaders in Trieste, and more comments from business leaders. (all google translations). It appears his passing caught many by surprise. It seems that Dr. Illy knew how to find the balance between business, science and art...not loosing his focus balancing between these different perspectives. It is sad that as millions of Americans are gulping their mugfull every morning while  reading their newpapers, none of the American press seem to take notice. I did a news search at Google and found zero results on Dr. Illy, while Howard Schultz yielded over 2,000 resluts. Coffee is BIG NEWS in the American press...much of it trivial .. I imagine you may have some reporters email addresses who would appreciate receiving your account of this great man. I gave an input at www.starbucks.com (heaven knows why!) as follows: "The Death of Dr. Ernesto Illy must touch the people of Starbucks and Howard Schultz deeply. It is a shame that Googling Dr. Illy's name in the news search brought ZERO resutls. "Howard Schultz' name, to his credit, appears over 2,000 times. I got a heads up from a reporter from the paper today. I called too late to provide them with some good interview sources for it (Bruce Milletto would be a natural for this, he knew Dr. Illy pretty well), but I'm encouraged that the Times will be giving the man his due.
