IF any Barista (or barista crew) wants to donate a day's tips towards this family, I'm happy to have them post it here (and post the date it will happen, so consumers can go in and tip even more);
If any cafe wants to donate a portion of sales of a coffee for a day, a week, whatever, I'm happy to have them post the details here so people can be aware of it.
If any roaster wants to donate a portion of the sales of any of their coffees, including Guatemalan selections, again, I'm happy to have them post it here, complete with links.

Looks like they have three different coffees from the from the Finca Vista Hermosa farm, so I bought one of each. Looks like I'll be drinking a lot of coffee this week.
This reminds us all to be thankful for what we've got and where we live; the likelihood that any of us in the states or Europe will be killed by roadside bandits is dramatically lower than it is in a lot of the places where we get our treasured bean.

We are continuing the donations online and in cafe all this week. We extended it to our wholesale customers as well and many are participating.
Our wonderful Baristas stepped up on their own and are donating all their tips for the next week to hte Martin family.
Edwin Martinez and I have spoken several times and we are working on some better long term solutions to help the family. Education for the younger children is a focus. We will keep posting here and on our site to let everyone know the latest info.
thank you for everyones support. And please be patient if we are not as fast as usual as the demand for the coffee has surprised us and we are roasting as fast as we can.

Thank you to all the great people who put their money where their heart is and donated money to help support Juana Martin and her family. Together we raised $3,803.00 for the Martin family!!
Edwin Martinez of Finca Vista Hermosa is flying to Guatemala Friday the 7th and will be bringing down the money to help out the entire family. Thank you so much to all who donated, chipped in and helped out. I know that several other great roasters like Victrola Coffee, Brown Coffee and others all had donation drives as well and raised a great deal of money.
And a huge heartfelt thanks goes out to the amazing Barefoot Baristas who on their own decided to band together and donate all of their tips for the last week to Juana and her family! That is a strong move for a Barista to give up that much percentage of their income. Thank you Barefoot Baristas and crew!
Thank you so much everyone who helped out! We will still be raising money for the next few weeks so donate online or in the cafe!

It is common in the mountains or anywhere one does not have means or money to preserve a body - to have a funeral with in a day or two of passing. My father and grandfather both were present and they shared a few words. There were over 350 people present that we fed, that mourned for 3-4 days. It has been a difficult thing for us all in many ways, and I'm learning we all process differently. And different is O.K.
I can't begin to share how grateful I am for your contribution and your sentiments. As money will never replace what was lost, we can certainly be practical in helping meet needs for Juana and her kids and it will have a tremendous impact on their lives. 100% will go directly to them. We will be seeking wisdom in the coming weeks from Carlos' brothers who seem to have the best insight as well as spending time with Juana and her kids. Sometimes listening, sometimes just in silence.
We are committing to make sure their family is taken care of in the long run regardless of whether they continue to work with us or not. (And only time will tell as healing takes place if they will stay at FVH) I personally have the desire to keep conversations open with them and others who may help sponsor some of Juana's kids visiting a more developed country for a cultural and educational experience that may aid them in the future as well as for them to experience the blessing of seeing how many how far appreciate the work they do. This week I spoke with Diego about the possibility of helping his sisters start a business sewing bags that some of our roasters might purchase.
Again, I can't begin to thank you enough. May you be blessed much greater in return.
