How long does it take for the scale to give an accurate reading? I forget the technical term for this. This scale sounds great. All it needs is to quickly update as I'm adding water to a pourover. It sounds like you use it to weigh espresso as you pull shots, so it should be good for my needs.
EDIT: I thought this would be under the product page. I'm referring to your post about the "American Weigh 2kg mini scale - $18." Are calibration weights needed?

Again, a wonderful and thoughtful selection, Mark. Forgive my dopiness, but does the scale display in ounces/#'s as well. Not really that important, just wondering.

Because of the price, it doesn't include any calibration weights; but it does have a calibration mode; I have a 1kg and 2kg weight I've calibrated them with.
The lag on the scale is pretty short. I have it on the espresso machines and it is a near instant update as the shot progresses. Maybe a 0.2 second delay.

My question is does this scale have an automatic shut off? The scale I have now has an annoying shut off that will sometimes turn the scale off mid pour.

Robert, I have the scale Mark recommends. It does shut off automatically after 1 min. You can get around that limitation by pressing the mode button, which resets the timer.

You can also just briefly tap the scale's weighing pad and it will reset back to 0 on the shutdown timer. I've gotten into the habit of doing that.
As long as what's being weighed is changing in weight (ie, pulling a shot of espresso, pouring water into a Chemex, etc), the auto-shut down timer inside the scale stays at 0 seconds in its 60 second countdown.

Has anyone else experienced the plastic taste from the capresso kettle that I've heard about in reviews? Not from the glass of course but the ring that seals the kettle to the burner (or something).

a few years ago i got the chemex as a present. I would agree with this list and get the glass handled model, instead of the wood collar one. The wood collar on mine showed age really quickly even though I tried to never get it wet, it still found a way to get water damaged and start to crack. Its so bad that I want everything on this entire list!
