10 Years Ago Today
by Mark Prince

10 years ago, the first public beta for CoffeeGeek was launched; today, I'm looking back at what the Internet was like back then for coffee and espresso lovers.

Congratulations and thanks, Mark! A lot of helpful information has passed through your website.

You inspired me to search for my earliest CG post. It didnít happen until June 2003. I donít know if thatís because there were earlier ones your server lost or it just took me that long to get over my fear CG would kill alt.coffee. Alt.coffee did die, but it fell to other causes.

Oh, yes. Thanks again for my avatar photo. It came from your coverage of an SCAA show in Atlanta. You can see the name tag cord hanging down from my shirt collar.

Mark, After 10 years I remain a coffee geek, roasting, grinding, etcetering my own. But, I never got into the upgrade fever (although finally retired the Zass for a Rocky) and have gone cold turkey from the varous forums, news updates, etc.

You and Ineedcoffee were crucial for me ...and as you wrote in your article, it was the community that grew out of coffeegeek that was so unique and supportive. It was a social network that placed an emphasis on content, depth and real camaraderie.

The items i won at the Christmas season's fund raising events still serve me..and constantly remind me of the wonderful atmosphere you created here.

I found this link  at one of my old posts here..It links to a Coffee Kid's add i posted on an Israeli coffee forum. The link still works..as does Coffee Kids, who i still support.

Hoping that newbies and  coffee geezers  will lend a sympathetic ear to your call to support this organization.

Best wishes for the future...Myron
PS..Thanks for pointing to the possibility of  supporting  the Illy Foundation..i look forward to that beautiful set of cup.

Wow, you were young when you joined Becky! I remember a couple of other "youngsters" who made whopping impressions. Congrats on your baby!

As both a consumer and a manufacturer I can say you have provided an invaluable forum and source of information for those who chose to come here.

The fact you could put up with and do put up with some contentious emails/ posts etc is a credit to your ability to either consume bottles of Patron or the patience of few I've ever known..

Hats off to you..

REMINDER: Never leave the roaster unattended when in use !!   And remember to use our Rosetta Stone tip PART V PARAGRAPH 3.. it works !!!

I wasn't here that early, but got here as soon as I could.

Hi there all - this is my very first post!  (Woo HOO!!)

I am looking to upgrade my grinder, now that I have a decent press.  I just recently found an old Italian manual machine that I'm using now.  I go to the corner coffee shop to get fresh roasted coffee ground about twice a week....
