Hi Mark, I'm new to your site, and have been reading all the info I can get my hands on before buying my first espresso machine and grinder. I've a friend with a Silvia, and have read many positive reviews on this machine, so I think I've settled on it for my espresso machine. But the jury's still out on the grinder. My search for quality reviews of grinders in the $500-$600 price range brought me recently to your very in-depth review of the Mazzer Mini. Now, I know the review of the mini is slightly over 10 years old, but after reading about your self-proclaimed love affair with the Mazzer, I'm very curious what it is about the Compak K3 Touch that could make you say, "We'll recommend Compak's offerings anyday over Mazzer". All of a sudden, it seems Miss Mazzer has been summarily replaced by a younger, more slender, more sexy Miss Compak. And anyone who reads your in-depth review can tell it was true love with the Mazzer....so this new Compak must be HOT!
Anyway, joking aside, I've really enjoyed your site, how thorough you and many of your subscribers are in all things coffee, and how willing you are to share your thoughts with the rest of us. I'd love to hear some more of the arguments behind this brief yet whole-hearted recommendation of the K3 Touch, and why you're now willing to recommend it any day over the Mazzer.

probably a little late for a holiday review, but I'm so enthusiastic about this machine, I'm posting anyway. Hey, good luck with your Silva.. the reason I bought the Breville 840 (arrived on March 1, 2014) is due to the untimely demise of the Silva. Maybe mine was just a lemon-/
After 3 years mine either needed repairing or to be dumped. While it was highly recommended and that’s why I bought it, I never really liked it, was disappointed in the espresso, but because of the $ and time I invested in it, tried to make it work. I was hardly ever successful, although I followed all the suggestions offered. Finally it ceased to heat up the water. I thought it was the thermostat but it was the entire heating element that needed replacing. Warranty was up. Just as well. With the cost of repair just about 50% of the original purchase price, it was time to “let it go”.
After hardly as much research as I did for the silva I purchased the Breville 840. At the same time I bought a capresso infinity grinder, and from Peets 1/2 pound of espresso forte (recently roasted). I was prepared for a huge learning curve but there was hardly any.
bottom line: I am AMAZED that this Breville was not suggested to me before. Pulling shots.. following the clear instructions, even from the first shot– excellent. Yes, I would recommend this to friends. No I do not have buyers remorse. Very happy with this purchase. Just mad that I stuck with the Silva for so long. I should have sent it back upon arrival.
