You are using too oily beans.The beans can be oily because of dark roasting or they are getting too old. Try a lighter roast (North Italy Style), if you don't want to remove the protection cap.

I've owned this grinder for several years. Perhaps they've improved the design, but on my version, oily beans get stuck in the feed mechanism. I have to keep a thin rubber spatula nearby to push the beans into the grinder. This is really unacceptable for an expensive machine.

I thought I'd found a grinder with a doser at Amazon recently, but when I back for a second look it was gone. While I don't believe that the Capressa's (or whatever it was) of this world belong on the same page with Rancilio Rocky, do you know of another doser grinder at the low end?
I need help. I have a Rocky that needs a new bottom base as the front portion of it was broken off in transit. Does anyone out there know of a dealer that sells such a part? I would appreciate the info very much.
Got my new Rocky (doserless) yesterday. I also found the zero point without removing the screw, it was located at +1. turned the dial back 7 clicks and tried my first shot. It totally choked my Francis X3. Bought new beans today (Molinari) and succesfully found a position(14-16 on the dial) where I can pull a perfect double in 25 sec with a lot of nice rich dark crema. If I set it to 11-12 it will result in a 1oz ristretto.
This is a huge step forward in my coffee addiction. I used a Braun low-en burr grinder until now and could not get a good shot with that one (fast running with very blond crema).
