In addition, van der Westen debuted a lever version (yes!!!) at the Cologne World of Coffee Expo during the Summer of 2009. It is a prototype, but may go into production for 2010.

Mark, do you know where we might find pictures of this machine?

cheers,

Hi Mark
WOW thank you for such a fantastic article - perfectly detailed.
I'm  keen to read about any cupping notes on different origins/blends that you have run through the Speedster. Have you experimented with temperatures ranges depending on the origins?

Cheers

WOOAAAHHHH! Where do i start! Great review as always!  The intro to this machine humored me because this does look like it should go in a showcase! The retro look is nice and what can i say Im feelin nostalgic. I wait for the next review. Mark, I thought you would never ever go into video making haha I love the video though. Its has a great camera view, great information, and awesome to watch. If I had the money I would love this machine. Your reviews are......persuasive to say the least. ;) Cant wait for the next review.

Received my Speedster yesterday & the first thing I did was remove the top cover to take a look inside. Absolutely amazing build quality everywhere you look. Every bracket & fixture is machined from scratch & even the panel between the boilers & electronics is polished!! Our kitchen is torn apart for a rehab so today will be spent setting up a temporary home for the Speedster.

Hi  Mark.
Thank you for your review, which is excellent.
I try to see,if I can put this special machine into my home, and I ask,how can I handle the pump-motor combo, which I have not seen in any photo,or read dimensions of it,so as to decide,if I can fit it here or there.
Could you please put some photos of this combo,or wright the dimensions and the noise it produces?
Can I put it by the machine,or I have to put it under the counter?
Thank you again,
Theodore.

I mounted mine under the counter as it is fairly large. 9.75"(248mm)L X 7.5"(191mm)H X 5"(127mm)W(mounting plate). Under the counter you only hear a quiet hum but if it were up near the machine I think you would find it unpleasantly loud.

The pumps van der Westen uses are pretty big - or they may be "normal" size (the GS/3's pump is a small one by industry standards). It's also rumbly in a very positive, reassuring way.

I mounted mine on a thick layer of semi-spongey soft rubber to minimize vibration transfer to the floor, and put it all on the lowest shelf of my grinder stand (which is one of those Ikea $70 butcher block tables) it's out of the way, low to the floor, but you know its there everytime you use the machine.
