Opinion / Editorial
- Hines Public Market Coffee - closing? Not closing? Wolf!
- KitchenAid Proline Grinder controversy followup.

Emails:
- Murky Coffee not offering espresso blends for sale? (update: apparently not - maybe Nick will answer why); wants to know what beans are "espresso" and what are "coffee". Mark explains all.
- What is the difference between steam driven and pump driven espresso machines.
- What coffee brewers brew coffee at proper temperatures. Answer, not many, but Mark mentions some specifics, including the Capresso MT500, the Capresso CoffeeTec, and the Technivorm coffee maker.
- What is the proper way to drink espresso. Mark mentions Chris Tacy's segment in the Portafilter Podcast; discusses that there is not just one proper way to drink espresso.

Interview with Ken Davids
- Discussion about Ken's early involvement in the business of coffee
- Discussion about Ken's books, Coffee, a Guide to Buying, Brewing and Enjoying, and Espresso: Ultimate Coffee, and Home Coffee Roasting.
- Discussion about Ken's favourite roasters and coffee blends.

Two more interviews from Ken coming down the road.

Enjoy!

Mark

Mark you actually gave me some practical information today...inadvertantly...
I have been lazy for the last couple of months using the hot water spout on our bottled water to make french press at work..which is basically no where near hot enough... your mini rant on low end machines made me throw away my french press and go microwave some hot water and make a new PRESS... GOOD stuf... Yirgh rox... I take back all the nasty things I say about you behind your back... minus one or two I am keeping for a rainy day

oh by the way I HATE you for introducing me to ITUNES podcast button...GEez...now I subscribe to waay to many

First off, Mark, EXCELLENT project.  I recently started to download the 'casts.  I burn CD's and listen to them on the way to work.  Much more enjoyable that the world news!  Keep up the good work!  I actually look forward to my commutes so I can hear the 'casts.  I'll be bummed when I have caught up and have to wait for the next episode.

I have read all 3 of the Kenneth Davids' books you mentioned.  He has a very accessible style.  Like many a geek, he was instrumental in my path of my obsession.  It amazed me, being the first time I’d ever heard him speak, how truly humble he is!  To to have influenced as many people as he most likely had and still be so low key.  Remarkable!  Thanks so much for ‘casting the interview!!  Look forward to hearing the next two portions of your interview with him.

Oh, and BTW, love the “newb” segments.  I am trying to spread the word on quality coffee (as I learn more myself) and think I will send those as audio clips to my friends so they can learn the important basics before I give them the whole podcast.  Particularly thought the lead-in regarding what CG is all about and the “Quality Coffee on a Budget” were great.  You gave Beata two options, upper end grinder, or entry level grinder.  She chose the entry level grinder.  How would you have proceeded if she’d have chosen to blow most of her money on the grinder?  I suspect that you would have suggested the press pot and/or pour over filter as the method, but what would you grinder suggestion have been?

Thanks a lot.  Keep up the podcasting!  Love ‘em!!

Hi Mark,

I was thinking about your comments about how the Ristretto is a crutch drink, so I was wondering how does the best ristretto you've ever had compare to the best standard double you've had.
