Great review--thanks! Like many, I've been hoping for some new hardware content outside of the forums, and now I have a new lust object.
One question: How does the cup sediment compare to a press pot's? Of course this depends a lot on the grinder one uses. But even with my Rocky I get some sludge when using my Bodum Melior w/ the now-discontinued SwissGold filter. It doesn't personally bother me, but I've had friends say they like a cleaner cup. Is the Eva's filter finer than Bodum's or SwissGold's?

Nice review! And, just fyi, you can get a zip-up neoprene cover for an 8-Cup French Press. BonJour makes one called the Cafe Zip French Press Jacket and Amazon carries it.

Nice review. I found it especially interesting that you believe overextraction doesn't occur for at least 15 minutes (or around that, I can't remember the exact #).
By the way, I am very interested in supporting coffeegeek, but if I'm not mistaken, "associate" commissions are not paid when the item is sold by a 3rd party through Amazon, such as Tabletools and Total Home Store.

So I'm trying to figure out just how this thing is different from a French Press; the only thing I can come up with is the location and design of the filter.
Is the coffee any different, though? Mark?

The mesh holes are comparable (though a bit smaller) than the typical mesh screens on a press pot. The mesh doesn't have holes as tiny as a typical swissgold filter.
There is a bit of sludge, especially in the first cup pour. I've found that it tends to settle after a few minutes past the steep time (especially after you've poured a cup) and there's very little sludge in the second, third or fourth cups.
But there is sludge. It doesn't bother me at all and I think it even adds a body to the cup.

Two differences are that the ground coffee is always in more direct contact with the brewed coffee, and the neoprene jacket keeps the water warmer during the steep time. The second part is more key.
