This is not coffee related, but I wasn't sure which column to put this in. I'd like to see if anyone has any idea how to make the Chai Breve that Starbucks makes. I've tried, but haven't come close. Either too much/strong tea, or not enough 1/2, 1/2. Any ideas?

Thank you for the reply. I went to Starbucks, and they don't have concentrated Chai, either bags or loose. Any ideas? Thank you. I'm dying to make this at home for myself and save big bucks.

Ebizzness,

Most grocery stores will carry a chai concentrate. I have seen Oregon Chai for the most part in these stores. Specialty stores like a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods will certainly have a better selection.
If you do decide to buy loose or teabags of chai, you can just brew it like normal tea, ice it and then use it just like concentrate...be careful with this as the concentrates are sweetened and loose chai is not. Add honey or sugar (I recommend honey) before pouring in your steamed mixture.

As for proportions of milk to tea...we use 2/3 chai to 1/3 milk and steam them together. It helps wake the spices up a bit. PLEASE make sure you wipe your steam arm and bleed it thoroughly after doing this. If not, you will have a chai taste in your next drink, as well as a build up inside your steam arm.

Again, my appreciation for your response. I've searched a few stores for the concentrate, haven't had any success, but will keep trying. I definitely want it without sugar, prefering to add my own sweetner. Thank you for the portion amounts also. As a newbie, any comments are welcomed.

Hi!
Does it have to be a concentrate?
I made my own Chai Tea mixing Darjeeling, Assam and all the neccesary spices like Cardamom, Pepper, Orange Peel, Staranis, Cinnamon, Ginger,... I hope I didn't forget something.
So I make usual Tea, froth some milk which I pour into the tea, and than I sweeten it with honey.

I tried several Chai teas - ready mixed, but the best is the one from Tazo (Starbucks sells it) But as it is expensive, I came up with mixing my own spices. Worked well!

So if I've forgotten some spices, read the ingredience on the Tazo Package ;-)

what's really good is to brew the tea in milk instead of water or at least less water....very nice...better than a mix.
