What's the verdict on caffeine and people with cholesterol problem? I read somewhere that caffeine has antioxidant effect and can reduce LDL bad cholesterol. The reason I'm asking is I'm recently diagnosed with high cholesterol @ 264. The good cholesterol HDL looks very good and the bad cholesterol LDL is elevated. Should I cut back on caffeine or stay put with moderate consumption? Thanks!

I'm no doctor, but if you use milk or creamer common sense tells me that you could cut back on the milk or creamer you may use with the coffee. Milk fats can raise cholesterol. Take omega 3 supplements. Run this by your doctor for his approval.

Cut back on coffee because of high cholesterol? No way! That is what Lipitor is for.
Seriously, my understanding is that coffee filtered with paper filters is not a problem, but if it is filtered with a gold filter, and I suspect espresso filters, it may raise levels. It allows more of the oils through. All in all coffee seems to be rather healthy.

Any idea how much caffeine is in a double shot espresso or a Moka Pot brew? Doc said 3 cups a day is acceptable but he probably means watered down everyday burnt coffee that you can find in a typical office.

you need to clarify exactly what it is you are trying to cut from your diet, and then research specifically how much of that is present in coffee, and specifically how much in the coffee prepared the way you will drink it.
Big differences as already pointed out between instant and real, milk and no milk.
If it is caffeine, you from memory are in luck, as instant has a higher caffeine content :)
But, I am no medical expert - talk to the person who is telling you what to do.
