Hi there, A tv programme showed that roasted beans which have lost aroma can be re-introduced by heating it in a rice cooker. I wonder if it really works but i hv no experience in roasting beans....='= Theoratically, the caramelized compounds would be charcoaled THe flavor of the coffee would not be pleasant, i guess. Is it really possible to bring back the aroma with this method? Thanks :)

All they are doing is roasting the beans a bit darker, therefore carmalizing any leftover sugars or just burning the beans. There is no way to "reintroduce" anything to the coffee, at least as they are insinuating.

Without water the rice cooker will switch off almost immediately - it's how they're designed to work (to prevent burning of the rice when the water's absorbed/boiled off). So it won't get hot enough to caramelize any sugars or anything (which would blacken the rice under normal use). At most I would think it would be evaporating some of the remaining flavour compounds in the beans to give a nice smell, but will result in even less taste from the beans themselves.
