Hi,
I am wondering if anyone has tried adding butter with their coffee? Looking on old posts there was a brief conversation on this site back in 2005 but nothing overly insightful.
I have to admit I am intrigued. I know about traditional use in places like Tibet but I would like to hear from people who have tried it with their daily coffee. I read about a company who promoted this combination but the health claims are really questionable and the small print states that they are just the opinion of the author. Anyway, health aside, I just want to hear from people on what they thought of the taste!

I have never done it myself, however I have heard of people putting butter in espresso shots.

"Coffee leads men to trifle away their time, scald their chops, and spend their money, all for a little base, black, thick, nasty, bitter, stinking nauseous puddle water." ~The Women's Petition Against Coffee, 1674
The problem I see here is not the taste, but the behavior of butter in hot liquids. The butter melts and floats to the top. As the coffee cools, the butter solidifies into a greasy slick on the top. You get similar behavior with heavy cream, but more slick-y, and less of a puddle.
I see where you are coming from regarding consistency. On the one hand I suspect that butter will add to the body and for it congealing I suspect it might a bit but I suppose you don't need butter. Proponents talk about grass fed and unsalted butter. I am going to have to take the plunge over the weekend and try this. Care to join me and compare notes?
@jbviau: I suspect yak is right but hopefully yak is not what will happen after trying it. If you google the combination you will see people who swear by it, claim fat loss bla bla bla. So much hype it hard to read through. I figured on this site a pure coffee lover would have tried it by now and would be shouting out how horrible or surprisingly wonderful (or how it gave him the runs?) it is.
It appears Craig has self-moderated. ;) Right, I'd try this not for health reasons (because the claims are surely bogus) but rather out of pure taste-related curiosity. Setting my expectations to "low." In the meantime, go for it!
