Subject: Toughts about a new iPhone app for making French Press coffee

Hi,

I'm a French Press & Coffee lover. I really love it and brew 2-3 time per day. That's why I always set my countdown timer trough the Clock app several times per day. In the long term I was doing always the same thing. That's why I thought I can develop a simple French Press app that launches automatically the timer and counts down (from 4:00 min). Here are some images (there is no app name, nothing to sell, nothing that is anything like commercial, just some images to show it):

I want to build the perfect companion for a french press. In the next update I will add these options:

-Set the water adding time
-Set the stiring time
-Set the steeping time

What are you toughts about it?  What should I change or add to it? Any negative, positive comment?

Any feedback is welcome :)

I couldn't find the perfect place to post this topic. I just want some feedback. Really anything valuable is important for me to improve and make it better.
I have a website that describes this app more in detail, however It can be seen as commercial, therefore I'm not providing it.

Regards :)

Does this improve on LabTimer's functionality? That's a free app that I use and have been happy with.

Hi jbviau,

I looked at the app you mentioned and they are somehow different. My application is just for coffee, with animations (yes all the pictures are actual beautiful animations) and handy features such as:
  • Timer begins automatically at every launch(that means no additional taps every time)
  • Retina animations with informative instructions(when to stir, when to push,..)
  • Stop timer with a slide gesture( to prevent accidentals cancellations)
  • Notification sounds that let you know the when to begin and end.

The predefined timer settings are:
  • 20 sec for water
  • 5 sec for stirring
  • 4.00 min for steeping

However you cant change the timer for now. But the great news is I implemented the settings page, where you can change every step if you want. For example you can change the steeping to 3.30 minutes and Stirring for 20sec, etc.. I will submit this today :)

I hope you like it. Thanks for the feedback.

It's hard to say really without trying out the app. I did manage to find the listing in iTunes. If I'm being picky, I'd say it's probably not necessary to remind people to *hold on the lid* and pour! ;)

Hey thanks :) You're right it seems it is not an important step to show. I'm a thinking to remove it and add a new step at the beginning in which the app says how much ground is needed for a French pot. Lots of my friends said they don't know how much coffee they should use for it.

And the best part is that all steps can be disabled or enabled, completely configurable which means it is suitable for new coffee lovers and veteran french press users.

Thanks again for the feedback :)

I simply stuck a NFC tag on my french press that starts a 4:00 minute countdown timer.  Tap the phone to it after I add the water and I'm all set.  But since Tim Cook says you don't need NFC, I guess that won't work for you :-)

Well thats kinda difficult because there is no NFC support for iPhone. But this is a great idea for the future! :)

I think the Iphone is a bit thin and needs to be more round to fit inside the FP for use as a plunger,...... OH,.......... NM
