So here's something I bought about ten years ago, and something that was manufactured in 1934 or 1935. It is part of a five piece brewing outfit I bought called the Sunbeam CoffeeMaster. But it isn't like the usual 1930s double globe CoffeeMasters you see here and there - this is the previous design. It came with
- heating base with variable wattage control - tall tower kettle, chromed copper. - a "tea brewing" insert, all metal, incl. filters - a "coffee brewing" insert, again all metal, incl filters - most unusual, a metal vacuum pot insert with a super long siphon, as this was designed to also brew siphon coffee!
I'm now using this as my retro kettle for the cupping table in the new CoffeeGeek Lab - and today I was running several Fluke thermometer tests on it to see what temperatures things would have at different setttings, and if these were repeatable.
I'm very happy to report that, within 2-4F, they generally are, at least with a full pot of water. At 375W on the dial, it maintains water at 200F; at 400W, at 205F, and at 420-425W (tight to dial in), 209F, or just below boiling. It also can hold enough water for six cupping cups (3 coffee samples) just barely but good enough for three coffee sample tastings!

Hello, Mark. I just found your article on the cylindrical Sunbeam Art Deco Coffeemaster with the warming plate that you use in the lab. You mention that it comes with a vacuum pot and a coffee brewing insert. Do you have these items or have you ever seen them? I've been looking for a long time with no luck, though I have found ads and patent drawings for them. Thanks much.
