I have a substantial tolerance to coffee and was wondering how long it should take? I am also worried about my metabolism being off since it is useful in keeping me regular. I love coffee and don't want to have to give it up. I was thinking a week.

How much are you drinking? If it's several cups a day, you'll feel really lousy for about a week. You might try just cutting down, or mixing "real" and decaf (I have decaf most weekends, but about 20% "real" beans makes it taste considerably better).
OTOH, what does it matter if you have a caffeine habit, unless it's giving you problems like irregular heartbeat or sleep disturbances?

And what do you mean by tolerance?
I can drink it any time of the day and still go straight to sleep, but it's not exactly tolerance. It's chemistry. I had a pharmacist I know try to explain it once and it went over my poor wee nursie head.
I used to not be able to drink it much after 3 without staying up all night. Sometimes, what you think is caffeine tolerance is changing metabolism.
