I hope that this isn't too weird However, I notice when I burr grind my coffee that I get what looks like chaff or little brown bits of leaf? seed cover? don't know what mixed it It is weird but when I watch videos on how to do a correct chemex pour over (for example) there are never these bits in the shot?!
The coffee comes from Oren's Daily Roast - a relatively small roaster in NYC

I roast my own generally. I believe dry processed coffee tends to have more chaff attached to the beans. Certainly there is visable chaff that does not completly detach from my own roasts. I believe someone on this board collected their chaff and "brewed it" to make a sort of drink. I say "sort of" because I can't remember how they characterized it. I do remember that it was not apparently offensive tasting. Just goes to show what some geeks will do with this hobby, when they have free time.
Bottom line is that the presence of chaff in my experience doesn't seem to have any substantial effect on the coffee taste.
Of course you could go through the roast and use a very fine tweezer to remove bits that cling to the beans.

Never thought about not seeing this in video demos, but yeah. Anyway, I had the same ? back in Feb when first grinding. Geeks assured me it was normal, would not effect coffee flavor, was more or less with different beans, etc. I found the finer I grind the less chaff I have. (NOT that you would grind finer for that reason)
