Does anyone know where I can purchase authentic Kopi Luwak coffee.  I've been told that some of the coffee sold is not authentic.  Amazon sells it, however, it's not directly from Amazon but another merchant. If there is anyone who purchases this coffee and have the name of a dealer who they recommend, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks.

As far as I can tell, the consensus for drinking civit coffee from the people I've mentioned it to, is don't. Between the reliability of cherry selection, forcefeeding of animals, and differentiating between fakes/blends/genuine product, it just throws so many wrenches in the process it isn't even worth pursuing.

Maybe some people have had worthy experiences with it.
Here is an scaa article circa 2011 detailing the issue.

If you need to throw money at coffee and a crazy flourish of flavors is what you want- find a roaster doing some Don Pachi Estate Natural from Panama.

Reminds me of what George Howell said at his CoffeeCON 2013 seminar, when someone in the audience asked him about Kopi Luwak… "from a$$holes, for a$$holes". I kinda' agree! Take care!

You might ask Bill Gates, I hear he's now the richest guy in the world.  He might be able to fix you up with a pound or two of his authentic cat-butt coffee stash which he's probably got a lot of.  But if it turns out you don't like it, then it wouldn't be as big of a cat-ass-trophy, since you could still afford to get tasty, premium fresh roast coffee any old time from your local brewstery, without having to max out your credit cards.

Brenda, you might have picked up by now that this particular "kind" of coffee is not well thought of. It is impossible pretty much to find the "real" stuff and even then, the animals are force fed thus voiding the premise that the cevit eats only the best and choicest of the cherries. If they are crammed down your throat or you are in a cage and fed nothing but what is in front of you, there is not much choice there.

It is all about the novelity not quality. There are MANY excellent coffees to be had at much lower prices.

Just what is it you are looking for? I am sure we can help you find something great.

+1.  And since most of the luwak farmers as so unethical to force feed the civets the unripe beans, whose to say they are not feeding them to other animals and selling the resulting feces bound beans as "Genuine Luwak".  How would one to know unless they did a scientific examination of the crap to determine if it actually came from a civet?  The whole thing is made for a P.T Barnam & Baley show.

To the intelligent people who responded, thank you for your responses and honesty.  I didn't know the history about the coffee.  I know someone who loves coffee and I was looking to get them a good coffee which he had never had before.

To the other sarcastic responss... It shows how classless you are. Oh, I don't need Bill Gates Millions to buy expensive coffee. -Take Care

So I take it you are here on the board for the short term?

Yes, Len.  My friend loves drinking coffee and he started getting me into it as well.  I thought this would be a good forum for me to learn more about various kinds of coffee. Those sarcastic comments were uncalled for.  They could have simply explained the background without bashing me.  I appreciate those who had the courtesy to give me information without being sarcastic, but  I won't post anymore due to the other unnecessary comments.  Thanks.
