I am looking to purchase a standalone ice maker, one that produces commercial quality ice.

Does anyone know of a machine that will do this that isn't a full fledged commercial unit?  I'm looking for something small I can put under the cabinet. With active ventilation, of course.

I do not like the ice my icemaker makes.. while it has improved greatly when I installed my RO system, the ice still imparts unwanted flavors into my drinks.  It does not come close to the clarity (in taste) of the commercial ice I buy in bags at the market.

Scotty, keep an eye on http://www.kmcsales.com/ they are in Anaheim and have used equipment on a daily basis with an auction every other week. Sometimes they get smaller stuff but for the most part it is regular commercial size equipment. I am going to need to go there for a commercial freezer myself soon. In addition to the auction, they do sell out the door but the best deals are at auction.

Other than that, an ice maker is pretty much an ice maker but just about any stand alone ice maker is going to give you much more ice than you need in a home and do not forget about the sanitation you need to do on a regular basis too, all kind of nasty things can grow in the inner workings, out of sight and out of mind. Just saying. Good luck.

That's great advice, particularly on the sanitation point.. I hadn't thought of that.

I will keep my eyes on the auction offerings.

Thanks a bunch!
