I'm in LA for a month. This morning was my first without my S1. So it was french press for breakfast instead of Americano. I had planned to bring my iRoast and some greens but after I had it packed, got cold feet. I didn't think that it would survive the journey. Instead, I roasted three pounds of Sumatra Decaf and vac sealed it, 150 gms at a time with my food saver. I put the bags right into the freezer when I got in. Reckon it should be very drinkable for a month.
Tried using the Zass to grind the beans. Not for me. Too much work and I can't adjust it precisly. Used my daughters blade grinder but didn't like that either. Ordered a Capresso Infinity from WLL for use out here and back in Atlanta as a backup to the Junior.
Noticed a coffee shop across Melrose at the intersection of Grove Street, called Buzz Coffee. Will try it out tomorrow and report.

If you are in need of some fresh roasted coffee I would be happy to roast up a bit extra and priority mail it to you in LA...should arrive next day with little cost.

Thanks! That's a very generous offer. If I run low, I will drop you a line. Maybe we could start a support group of roasters emergency airmailed resupply (rear). Motto: If you run low of bean while away contact us and "GET IT IN THE REAR".

Uhhhh...I think you need to work on that motto a bit! LOL
But seriously, even if you just want some variety, that is cool too. I haven't been roasting for too long, so I would love to have someone test my roasts and give me an outside opinion.
Cigar smokers are famous for trading and gifting cigars....part of the fun is trying new stuff. I don't see coffee as being much different in this regard.
Email me your addy for LA and I would be happy to send a care package of some of the stuff I am roasting right now.

Adam, I enjoy sharing my home roast with others and to try there roast. It's nice to get some feed back on your roast and to have something to compare your roast to.

If I was a better cupper I'd voluteer, but I think the road to expertise cannot be rushed. I have noted, however, that now that I'm trying to taste all of the subtleties of coffee, I have become more critical of everything that I put in my mouth.

You've got about 6oz each of El Salvador and New Guinea. Nothing real fancy, but I have been enjoying them lately. The ES is a solid medium roast and the NG is fairly dark and oily. Funny thing is I roasted the NG a full minute less than the ES...go figure.
Anyway, you are getting 3/4 of a pound because shipping costs are the same for anything under a pound...I just put the packaging and beans on my scale and filled up 2 ziplocks evenly until I hit about 15.5oz.
You should be able to smell the box long before the mail carrier shows up at the door! LOL

Yumm! I have roasted El Salvador Cup of Excellence Malacara Lot A. I never was able to get an outstanding cup out of it even though I roasted at least 3 pounds of it to different levels. I ended up blending it with some Horse. It will be interesting to see what you have been able to do with it. And of course it is a different lot. I think that the coffee that I had was left over from last year and had lost what ever acidity it had originally possessed.
I haven't tried the New Guinea but understand that it bears some similarity to JBM which I have tasted. I am partial to sweet slightly acidic coffees.
