My doctor recently put me on stimulant medication which means no more high test coffee, it sends me to the moon. I have been mixing my grind with half decaf and half regular but it seems that the decaf I have been getting from Starbucks taste like an old dish rag.
I am looking for opinions as to which brand decaf is good also what is a good way to cut regular coffee, should I get the exact same kind or just use a universal varietal. For instance if I am drinking Mocca Java should I use equal parts of Decaf Mocca and regular Mocca or use regular mocca and a universal type decaf like Columbian that won't effect the flavor too much but add to the richness.
This is quite the problem as I love coffe and hate decaf coffee.

Well I share your problem! I never quite made it to the moon, but I was off in orbit many times. I have been mixing half & half (decaf & reg) for about ten years. I keep trying to make it 2/3 or 3/4 decaf but like you do not like the taste. I mix whatever brand, make or model I have on hand. I drink a lot from a local roaster (Pears) which is Columbian, both decaf and regular, but just received 3#'s of starbucks,(a gift) breakfast blend, regular, and will be mixing it with Pears Columbian decaf. Don't know what else to tell you, Iam no expert, allways searching for a better cup of coffee.

Thanks for the words perfect. I have been in orbit many times usually on a daily basis because, I LOVE COFFEE and I cannot stop drinking it...
I surmized that decaf columbian might be the best choice for a universal to cut with full strength coffee. Try ordering from Intelligentsia they are great....
Completely agreed. I drink almost nothing but 100% decaf when it comes to espresso. But I have to roast the beans myself. I use a stovetop popcorn popper which works very well. The flavor is fantastic.

My wife bought me the Hearthwear I- roast for Christmas with half and half pack from Sweet Maria's I will see how the Decaf is- though I am very excited about it. Have to wait til Chirstmas though.

Make sure you read up on roasting decaf in the iroast in the homeroasting forum. There's special consideration when it comes to roasting decaf in the iroast..
I dont own an I roast, I've just seen posts regarding roasting decaf.

Hi...my recomendation for decaf would be beans processed using the "WP" process...from Royal Coffee, available through Coffee Bean Corral (CBC), Sweet Maria's, etc...they are pretty close to "hi-test"...
