Hi Xerxes,

Bourbon is a varietal type of coffee tree, like Caturra, Cataui,Typica.

No no!

Bourbon is a great, slightly sweet whiskey made from a sour mash of corn and goes great in a cappa or cup of black. Yum!

:)

In all seriousness, Craig is correct. If you google it, you can read up on the history to learn how some of the varietals of coffea arabica were developed. Bourbon is a major early line that was inculcated under the sponsorship of the Bourbon royal family of France and led to enormous economic changes early in coffee's trading history (before it was a commodity).

thanks guy,
i did a search in dictionary.com and it turns out nothing related to coffee. so i was perplexed.
now i know.

further question:
if i understand it correctly, it's a varietal of arabica coffee, right? what's differences from the rest that you've explained? what's about catimor?

Heirloom Bourbon can produce high quality, but it has low production, and low disease resistance unlike many other tree varieties. It's a variety that is "prized" by connoisseurs, if you will.

Jack Daniel's is not bourbon but it is whiskey.

Knob Creek is both bourbon and whiskey.

Scotch is whisky but no bourbon is scotch.

And in many cases whiskey is whisky, except of course scotch whisky.

See it's simple!

Bourbon has to be made in Kentucky, correct?
