DigMe,

I think you're right - must no longer be in production.  Surprisingly little about the thing out in cyberspace.  I better grab it while I can!

First, hello and thank you to all on the forum. I've lurked and learned
and now I'm itching to give this home roasting a shot.

I like the idea and the price of the Turbo/Crazy combo. It's affordable and
can roast enough to hold me for a week at a time.

Is this Salton Popper the same size as the Stir Crazy?

To save time modding (although I imagine the heater would still need
disconnecting), I'm willing to give the UFO a shot.

Since this is my first post, I won't link to the pages out of respect for the first
five post rule. I found the Salton UFO (Ultimate Fun Object, clever)
model # PCST22 in the eSalton web store and on Amazon.

I just need to stop fighting the urge and jump into the coffee vortex by ordering
a Sunpentown, then I'll have no choice but to get a popper and some beans.

I searched Froogle and Ebay for "Salton UFO" and I'm not seeing this thing.  Then I looked at the Salton store on their website and it's not there either.

So I assume this thing is no longer in production?

From what I can tell it is still in production and is still being sold by Salton.  When you go to Salton's website you can click on Store then you are taken to their store, eSalton.  Here's a link directly to the popper on their site.  You can also order it off Amazon.

I just ordered one from Amazon.  I will compare it to the modd'ed stir crazy and report back my findings.

I don't know what the deal was.  I searched the eSalton store for "popper" and it only returned the Toastmaster popper.

jhouse7,

Glad you found that the UFO is still available.  I searched a bit, and came up nearly empty (google).  I haven't raced back to purchase the unit yet - I have never worked with (or seen) the offical stir-crazy, so I have no comparison point of view.  Since you own a real SC and have been working with it a bit, I'd love to know your findings once the UFO arrives.  Same size? Same rate of stir? Same stir arms?  Stock metal shaft need replacing??? Let us know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave - is it convienient for you to go back to the store?  Just measure the diameter to the rim of the non-stick cooking / popping surface where the springform would go and report back to us here.  From the pictures, it looks like you just have to replace the central cap, and if it has the metal shaft, there wouldn't be a need for replacement - why would there be?  Let us know... then I can take the SC that is still in the box back to Target and get this one instead... ;-)

OK, folks - because you asked...

The non-stick/popping surface is 10" diameter.  How's this for efficient - PHOTOS!  {it pays to be nice to store clerks... sometimes!}

jhouse7 - we anxiously await your's arriving & being put into action.

Can anyone tell me the diameter of the Sunpentown oven top?  I'll probably pick up the UFO in the next few days, and will need to make a C/O purchase as well.  Is one better than another?  I know many people are buying just the heater/top of the Sunpentown at a reasonable price.

Thanks,

Dave
