TE's can roaster inspired me to roast by aiming a heat gun up through the bottom of a flour sifter with some screening over the top acting as a lid. needed much shaking for an even roast but it worked well enough to get me through the winter. and, as per tim's stated intent in creating his can roaster, it was easy to keep an eye on the color, and a nostril on the smell of the beans as they went through the various roast levels.

Excellent job! I have been mulling over doing a larger roaster in this style. I hope you'll follow up with some more pics and how well it works. I'm also curious as to how much you may be able to roast. Again great job!

My batch size is 2 cups of green coffee. At the angle I need to toss the beans around, I can't fit any more in without sacrificing a few.
I use a cheap heatgun as the power source. It has High (~1000 degrees) and Low (~600 deg) But I'm not sure how realistic those numbers are. I usually use the High setting and just put some more distance between the heatgun and the can to regulate temperature. I like the higher fan setting to blow that chaff out of there.
