OK I'm new! I've just finished my 5th batch (got from sweet marias) first two-three were preset and I had to shut it down with3-4 min left, and got vienna roast color. I just did two keyan batches with a custom preset (suggested in marias lit) and still shut down with 3 and a half min left. Color looks good, like a cty+ we'll see what it tastes like. Is it just wattage? do most of you roast to cty-cty+? I thought the darker oily was OK with costa rica but the columbian was a little harsh. Fun though! Happy roasting! Dean

I got mine a few weeks ago, first time roaster. I have programmed the 12 minute roast profile in, Espresso Randys Profile 8 and one from Coffee Bean Corral where I got mine. My roasts usually last 12-13 minutes. I can't decipher 2nd crack but I watch the color and stop right before the beans get oily. It's been great so far. I'm new though so what do I know? Wish I'd have waited the the Behmor 1600. Sounds like a lot more roaster for $120. I like the iRoast though. When it's busts, I'll get the Behmor.

Welcome to the world of IR2! Hot and fast are the by words until you get used to how it works. One trick to hearing 2nd crack is to set the roaster so the top is below head level. Then you can lean in and actually HEAR 2nd crack. CG is full of helpful advise, so look around and enjoy the ride. And don't worry about stopping short, it's rare with any roaster not to. And remember, the ideal roast level is the one you enjoy, not the one the "experts" tell you is best for that bean.
