Subject: Weird coffee maker from Amway - have you seen it?

I'm in Wilmington NC for three days and our branch office has a rather mysterious coffeemaker. One of the company founders is hooked into the Amway system and the coffee comes through them (don't get me started on the quality or I'll digress). The interesting thing is the coffee machine. We use double plate Bunn makers in the main office but the NC office has the Kahve coffee machine pictured below. It's pretty cool looking and appears to be of solid build quality but most interesting is the basket. Note the vertical ribs visible through the clear basket housing. The entire basket actually spins at a fairly high rate if speed throughout the entire brewing process and the green light to the left blinks until the brew is complete. One of the guys brought in some Starbucks Sumatra preground today but it's hardly and adequate way to assess the performance of the unit. The centrifugal action appears to be designed to improve extraction but maybe it's just a gimmick. It's very cool to watch - alomst hypnotic.  I recorded a short .mov file with my digicam and can post a link to it for those with a burning desire to see all the action. Just curious - is this a rebadged machine by some more well known manufacturer? Can't seem to find info on this one anywhere.  A company called access designed it for Amway. They supposedly make water filters, coffee making equipment and some other products. The one with the glass carafe is from our office. The one with the metal carafe is the carafe design that won them an award for te design and manufacture process used (ostensibly).

I had one for awhile, got it off of eBay.  I tested it and found that the water temprature was 195-198, perfect and the spinning basket did seem to do a great job of thoroughly saturating the grounds, I was kind of worried that the grounds might spin up over the edge of the filter but that didn't happen, it also goes into "hyperspin" mode at the end of the brew cycle to "dry" the grounds and prevent dripping.  It even has a nice beep to alert you when the brew cycle is complete, loud enough to hear several rooms away without being overly annoying.  I eventually weened myself off of auto-drip style makers entirely and now use vacpots or my Chemex almost exclusively.

What did I do with it...?  It's now at work and is used everyday there by my co-workers and even by me when I forget or am too lazy to grind and brew my own before coming into work.

Overall I found that it was a great machine, just not for my home.  I would like to possibly find a replacement thermal carafe for work tho'.  I just don't want to have to mess with Scamway.
