Hi. I have an i-Roast2 and am quite happy with it. It would be nice to do larger batches though. Is the Behmor a worthwhile upgrade or should a guy spend more $$ and go to something better?

You would have to spend a LOT more $$$ to get something better than the Behmor.

I am on roast number 4 with the Behmor and I must say I think its quite the roaster. I dont think a Nesco,I Roast 2 or Fresh Roast are even remotely close. I have only had experience with the Nesco...but I love the Behmor.

Hi VN2000.  I used an i-Roast II for over a year and was happy with it.  It was my first roaster.  But the deflector came loose and I can't fix it anymore; Hearthware only sells the complete roasting pot and not just the deflector so I decided to upgrade.  Recently moved to a Behmor; it is unbelievably quiet.  The cracks are much more apparent and it is a luxury to roast more than the ~130g I was doing on the i-Roast.  Plus the Behmor's smoke suppresion technology really does work well.  In the i-Roast's defense, however, I must say that it did produce clear, bright roasts.  The Behmor seemed like good value for the money to me and I don't regret buying it.  Good luck with your decision.

I loved my I roast 2 ...until the Behmor came out. I will never use the Iroast2 again ....unless the Behmor goes out. I roast for family and friends and ALL of them can tell a big difference in my roasting since I have switch to the Behmor.  There is not  one of them (friends & family)  that wants me to use the I-Roast.again........ And yes, they love the way the coffee tasted with the I Roast..To me it is worth double the price.

IMO

Oh gosh yes.   The I-roast suffers from so many design issues that while can be worked around, also make it a big chore to use, plus it doesn't roast that much coffee.   In comparison the Behmor roasts much more coffee, it doesn't sound like a jet taking off in your house, the top doesn't pop off of it, it isn't subject to ambient conditions, and it really doesn't cost that much more than an I-roast.

I have them both.  If you are happy with it, ride it till the motor gives up.  By then, there will be some track record on the Behmor's longevity.  RE:  Upgrading.  Something better?  I think my Behmor roasts better than the Gene Cafe I have.  I like them both.  More control with the Gene but honestly?  I think the Behmor is bringing out more subtle nuances from the bean.

Money to burn?  Buy it.  Things tight?  Wait till the IRoar dies.

Well, since the i-Roast2 is still working well, I think I'll wait and see how the Behmor performs over the year. I'm pretty sure I'll be upgrading my espresso machine this spring, so putting the $$ there makes more sense.
