I've had a Zach and Dani's home roaster for years. Loved it. So when it died I went straight to Sweetmarias and ordered the Nesco. All was fine until the cooling cycle. Holy cow! It was *so* loud I seriously considered pulling the plug. I mean go into the next room and turn the tv up loud. I called Nesco and was told it could be louder than the Z&D, it could be that the fan is positioned differently. That didn't instill any confidence in me.
Has anyone purchased one of these lately? Anyone had both and can attest to the increase in cooling cycle noise?

Hi Pam,
I have a fair bit of Z&D experience but I haven't actually seen a Nesco other than pictures.
There is rumor that Nesco raised the power of the roast heater. That was what prompted me to try to buy one from them a while back.
One other weak point of the Z&D was the slow cooling. It could be that Nesco tried to mitigate that by running the fan faster during the cool-down cycle. Is your excess noise just more fan noise or is something rubbing.
You might call or email Tom at Sweet Maria's and ask about this. My guess is that he has old and new machines in his possession.
By the way what happened to your old Z&D? Might it still have a good roast heater?

I emailed sweetmarias first. They said they didn't know if the noise was normal or not and gave me the contact info for Nesco. They did say that it didn't seem right and could ship another unit. I'm trying to see what others say before asking them to do that.
It does seem like all fan noise. I've only roasted once. If it's a messed up unit I didn't want to push it.
My old Z&D bit the dust and has already been tossed. Sorry.

It sounds like all fan noise. The increase in sound level made me think that this thing was having to work much harder than the Zach & Dani. It really startled me.
Maybe it's just the power increase. Kind of like listening to the difference between an F-15 taking off and an F-22 taking off.

So basically like comparing the noise of a lower rpm low cfm fan to a higher rpm high cfm fan?
Just for your information, I checked the reviews on it on Amazon.com. One person who did a review did say that it was very loud, if that is any consolation to you wondering if your Nesco's loudness issue is unique to your roaster.
