Last night I did my first Z&D roasts since the demise of my Z&D roaster almost three weeks ago.
A kind person on these forums send me a parts machine. Thank you Dave.
It turned out that the machine he sent had much less use than mine even though it had a serial number lower than mine. It almost looked like new old stock. I decided that my old machine would be the organ doner. The drive belts in both machines had some cracks and were a bit loose. I remembered that Lisa at Z&D (way back when they were a good company) sent me a drive belt for a spare. I found it and it still looked new.
I still don't have my mods installed in their final form but I kludged the concept (similar to the early version of my old machine) and did a couple of roasts. I did a decaf Kenya AA for my wife and an Indonesia Process Ethiopian for myself. They came out well and the machine worked pretty much like my old one.

Phil, you have helped many a soul on these boards. It was my pleasure to gift you with the Ol' ZnD. It was gathering dust after it failed for me, wouldn't even turn on. Seems you have the magic touch? Or, it intuitively knew that unless it worked for you, it was going to get hacked to death <grins>.

Hi Dave,
While the machine worked right out of the box, I took the bottom cover off and inspected it. A couple of blade connectors were nearly touching, one hot and one neutral. I have to believe this machine flipped a few breakers in its life. I straightened the connectors to prevent any shorts.
While the machine works fine it is getting hacked into a reincarnation of my old machine. The roast heater measures about 33 Ohms vs 34 Ohms that my old heater measured. Thats not a big deal but this roaster does seem more powerfull than my old machine. Last night I did a couple of roasts and it seemed to require less voltage to the roast heater for the same profile than the old machine. It could be room temperature as 33 Ohms vs 34 Ohms does not seem enough to account for the difference and it was warm last night.
Right now I just have the roast heater leads comming out of the bottom to connect to my variable transformer as I did in my early experiments with the old machine. This works fine but the heater is not controlled by the machine's controller. This is living on the edge for the heater since it will get fried if it is on with the machine not running. Scatterbrained as I am, I really need to get my relay transfered from the old machine to the new one.
