A fellow home roaster and I have been working on the design for a de-stoner for our home coffee roasting. My contribution to the effort was the occasional bright idea - Sam (also known as 'Alchemist') did most of the work including the design and execution of the final model.

It works and works well and is cheap and easy enough for any home roaster to build.

I've got the full design, parts and instructions up on my coffee blog at: Cafe Grendel

Sam is fine with people freely using the design to make their own, but obviously not for commercial purposes as he holds the IP rights for it there.

Here's a teaser photo that should give you a pretty good idea of just how easy it is to put together.

Nice work, guys!

I've been thinking in the back of my mind about ways to destone coffee, but I never considered doing it
after it was roasted. Thanks for sharing your innovation!

Cheers,
Jordan

No worries - both Sam and I love Yemen coffee and we always seem to find a lot of small (and very hard) stones in it. My grinder is fairly small and the burrs would suffer if I let one stone through (or worse it would jam and the motor burn out).

I've been sorting both pre and post roast by hand, but the destoner has a good rate of removal.

This is just the first build and I am sure that other geeks can come up with some sweet mods for it.
