This cannot be the first time that this has happened: The inverted cone deflector in the roasting chamber of my trusty old iRoast has broken off of the little stem that has held it there for so many roasts. It looks like it was just a press fit, and there is no apparent damage. Has anybody else suffered from this condition? Is there a simple fix (other than the purchase of a whole new roasting chamber) that is just not obvious to me? Do I really have to buy a Behmor now?
Thanks. EDIT: Now I have the Behmor, and am glad that the iRoast gave up.
Howdy, rutnip. The deflector cone on my i-Roast also became quite loose and wobbly. My dad (the Lord of Small Things) managed to somehow tighten it a bit (not sure how, I think he used a rivet) but warned that it wasn't fixable any further. Hearthware/i-Roast and retailers like Green Beanery offer only the roasting chamber, as I'm sure you've discovered. The i-Roast's stem and deflector cone are, I feel, so poorly put together, it's almost like planned obsolescence.
I chose to upgrade to a Behmor. I LOVE the 14+ oz batches, low smoke, and quietness of it. The i-Roast's foibles gave me a good excuse to upgrade. Good luck with your decision.
Don't you hate that you feel you have to upgrade to the B? I'll be glad when all of the hoop-la over the B dies down. How much does the new roasting chamber for the IR2 cost?
The cone assembly in my I-roast 2 is held to the roasting chamber with a single Phillips head screw. While the I-roast website doesn't show this part as being sold separately I would give them a call and see if they can help you out. 888-287-0763
