Thanks to this sites elevating my concerns about darker roasts, I just received my new Behmor 1600. I understand the profiles and the graphs in the back of the manual. But could someone explain to me the programs? (A,B,C,D) I assume they have to do with time but I can't find definitions for what they do or how to incorporate them into my roasting. thanks

Simply put, the A,B,C,D buttons just set the initial length of the roast and ensuing roast levels during that time-line. Note that each profile P1 to P5 has a maximum roast time, so occasionally the D button doesn't change anything.
You can manually set the initial time with the + and - buttons for really fine tuning.
Since the Behmor is new to you, just use P1 with 1/2# or less and get to know the machine. After a while you'll start experimenting with the other profiles.
Thank shane, I pulled the typical-"that's not for me" thought when I read others posting to download the revised manual- I just got the thing last night, how could I not have the latest??
I will do that.
Anyway, I roasted my first batch- what a pleasure compared to the air popper I used to use before it became too time consuming to do all the small batches.
I love it. I could hear good cracks and get a good sense of the changes in the nose. my only disappointment is I don't get a very good visual read on the beans. I also need to learn how to coast in to what I want- I was aiming for a full city+ but ended at Vienna (possibly french) I need to trust my nose and ears more, because I thought it was too light I let it go longer.
Just a quick note on manuals... In order to get them into a shipment they have to be with the manufacturer a month before even going in a box... in total.. What was written and sent last August.. didn't see the customer's hands till December. Over four months..
One day after sending the files overseas I was already re-writing the V3.1.. going for V3.2... and am already on V3.5... The most significant changes came in the first re-writes... But new data is always going to be added as it becomes available or pertinent..
Point is always check for updates.. and re-writes..
Another very solid recommedation.. Part V Paragraph 3.. It is IMHO the rosetta stone of the roaster..
ps.. Shane and others thanks for the help.. very much appreciated...
Always interesting to hear the inside hurdles that we don't think of.
I did three batches today and loved it. the first was too dark for that bean, but will be perfect for the ones I normally like, the other two ended just were I wanted them.
now I need to figure out what the advantages are for using the other programs/roasting slower?

Thanks Joe for keeping the manual updated like this ! I for one very much appreciate being able to go to one place (the latest manual on your website) to get the collection of all the latest tips and tricks, than having to track several different threads on CG and HB forums ;)
