Some friends gave me a few kilos of Oaxacan beans when I left Mexico a few days ago. They all still have the berry parchment on them. Does anyone know a good fast way to remove the parchment at home?
I just tried it using an old blender I probably got at a tag sale. Dulled the sharp edges and rounded the tips of the blades. Threw in about a cup+ of beans with the hulls on, turned on low and tipped the blender to the side a bit to get some rolling action for about 20 secs. Then poured them out in front of a fan and the beans fell straight down and the hulls blew away. It worked real well with no damage to the beans! farm PS Ben, hope all is going well at Barismo
I'll have some time later this week to try these suggestions--thank you! Also, I enjoyed the reading at Barismo.com and added it to my bookmarks. Thanks again.
I have a food processor with a plastic blade attachment that worked quite well for this, much along the lines of what farm suggested. Probably less than a 5 minute process all around. Lots of mess, but the coffee was decent with a really interesting dry aroma. I'd suggest this method to anyone who needs it.
