Always wondered about this, because i let a few roasts go well into 2nd crack, and always wondered where the oil is.I had never saw this before.Nice to see it addressed in manual, but Joe how come this is?

In my experience, it takes some time for the oil to really express itself. Sometimes the beans take a day or two to have it show up. But if you roast really dark, you'll see it fairly quickly.
However, I'm not sure why the oil is important to you-- just curiosity? (Some of my friends think that oily beans are a sign of good coffee... sigh.) It also depends on the bean, as some beans will show it easier than others.

Just curious because every other roaster i ever used when i went well into 2nd crack always produced oil rather quickly and noticed that this doesnt happen on the b.Love the roaster and am quite happy with it.

Observation seconded. I surmise the radiant nature of the elements (vs. air roasting) play a role in this, and also explains the more impactful flavors of roasts done in the bimmer. Still, I have no problems pushing a roast into sheen->shine, with obvious sticky oil several days later, but rarely allow the rolling 2C too far due to smoke/chaff fire potential. Plus who wants to drink anything beyond Vienna? :p

in my iroast when i see oil it's close to second crack (i believe). if i stop before that point, oil will show anywhere from a day to a week later. a local roaster near here that ive bought lots from before home roasting, their beans do not show oil.

When I used to use an iR2 I could never hear the cracks and watched for the very first sign of oil to stop the roast. Almost all my roasts had visible oil right after roasting. Since changing to the HotTop, even when I go well into SC there is little or no oil until it's well rested, and then only a minimum amount. It seems that the air roasting is more conducive to oil formation than radient.
