Are you clicking Save New or Update?

What version are you using?

Has it ever worked?

i just updated today to the newest version, i just did a test and it didn't do it this time. I hadn't realized you had updated it.

It was weird because it only replaced the second roast of the same coffee, when i tried doing a third roast.

Thanks
Patrick

Heck, it's always being updated. The newest is www.extrasensory.com/Downloads/BehmorMDI.zip but it's very different so back up your database before installing it in case you don't like it. You can always get the old version from the web page if you want to go back, but if it messes up the database you're stuck so back that up first:  My Documents/BehmorThing/BehmorThing.vdb.

But please if you try the new one tell me what you think. It's my first time programming an MDI interface and I'm struggling. The old interface was simple but limiting, this one is much less structured. Have 2 Behmors and want to monitor 2 roasts at a time, no problem any more. Want to look at the detail for two roasts at the same time, also no problem, but it also means you can open the same thing 9 times and get very confused.

I just wanted to say i really like the new version, being able to look at a previous roast, while preparing and roasting a new batch is really nice, and overall it is easier to use.

Why thanks for the kind words.

I don't know when you last downloaded it, but I've been making daily progress and there is almost a new version every day so if you've not downloaded it in more than a couple of days, it's probably time for an update.  Also ther's now a link on the BehmorThing page to the beta zip file.  It might actually now be worthy of replacing the original version. I just want to remember all the open windows before that.

And Patrick, if you didn't get my email, thanks ever so much for the present.

I just downloaded your program Ira...it looks to be a great tool I can use once I get over the many learning curves this "newb" needs to learn in all aspects of espresso making.

To comment on the machine itself, I've done four 1/2# roasts so far. Two were with SM's Brazil Cerrado at P3 and the other two were with Smithfarm's Kona at P1. The Cerrado was delicious and chocolaty but the chaff from this bean was extraordinary and looked like I had a small hot spot in the back bottom left corner from the scorch mark left on the chaff collector after my first roast. The Kona was on the other side of the spectrum with it's many delicate flavors and hardly any chaff at all!! I enjoyed both beans equally well and look forward to roasting up the other 7# of various beans from the SM deal.

Keeping a running log of all my roasts with your profile tool will be invaluable Ira. But as Tom from SM says, "The Behmor is very sensitive to changes in the WEIGHT of the green coffee you use in a batch. You must weigh the coffee, and be consistent! 4 oz., 8 oz., and 16 oz. are the three recommended batch sizes. If you are not getting roasts dark enough to your taste, you can reduce the batch size to 3, 6, or 14 oz, and effectively shift the entire roast range toward a darker roast. Whatever you chose, be consistent with batch size." This seems to be very true for me as I prefer a darker roast...and also means I need to get a scale. Splitting my 1# bags with a measuring cup isn't going to be very scientifically accurate  :-)

The people who've been making endless helpful suggestions seem to have run out of things to suggest and problems to find.  Not to say it's done or that there aren't still problems, but at this point it would seem like if you're using BehmorThing it would be a good time to download the newest version. The web page has been updated to give you an idea of what you're in for as if you're updating from the 1.0 version you're in for quite a change.

And yes, this post will be duplicated on Home Barista for those folks that don't watch both places.

I am unable to add a coffee to the list. I get an error when clicking save. It say's:

Unhandled exception has occurred in your application.
If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. ECT>>>

Then the actual error code:

165 Column contains Null value:
CoffeeInventroy:Coffee
Error code: 162 Unable to create record.

Anyway, I'm running windows vista and I did enter the date and cost per pound but that didn't help. Any ideas?

There will be a new version up before I go to bed tonight. 1.2.2.14. Could you please try that and see if it solves the problem. If not, please email me your BehmorThing.vdb using the link on the web site, tell me exactly how to duplicate the problem and I'll see that it's fixed.  I'm really sorry that you're having a problem. I try not to release things like that, but I'm a bit undisciplined and it bites me in the rear on occasion.
