Not sure about the 1st one, other than I'm not sure it matters. My SC/FW has a vent for chaff, so an airtight seal isn't even possible. Great roasts though.
As for the 2nd, the stock SC motor is made so that when it encounters x amount of resistance, it reverses gear. Yours could be faulty if you think it seems to find phantom objects to get stuck on, but it wouldn't hurt to check and see if there are any likely obstructions or low points. If you want that feature gone, you'll have to get a new motor.
