I've been using a company called Mercanta, I have found their coffee to be very good quality and decent in price. In the UK we have to order by the 10 bag pallet load but from what I've read the US side of Mercanta are more easy going and you have more flexibility on the amounts you order.

Those are the only ones I have personal experience with.  I'm sure there are lots of other sites (Coffeebarn. CCM, Ebay, etc)  Anyone disagree?  Agree?  Just my personal opinon.  Don't sue me! :)

I found another supplier: Klatch Coffee out of California.  They have the most expensive beans of anyone I've run into before.  Of the 20 coffees for sale, 4 of them are over $60.00/lb green, and the three cheapest ones are $6.00!  By the time you roasted it and it lost 20% of wieght in moisture, it would be $72.00/lb!!!   And on top of that, shipping to me on the East Coast is mind-boggling expensive ($18 for a 7 lb package!), BUT YET.....I'd say their offering list is the most interesting and most expansive of anyone out there.  Some of the coffees like Costa Rica La Minita and Aceh Gold Sumatra you can get other places for cheaper, but the Colombia microlots and Salvador Pacamara and the Panama Geisha coffees....mmmm...I'm going to put this whiskey away before I talk myself into ordering.  If anyone tries any of these, I'd love to hear about it.

What do you mean by poor shipping or price? Could you elaborate?

Two different philosophies on shopping, I guess. Shop for price or shop for quality. Sure, you can occasionally find places where the two intersect, but, generally speaking, you have to decide which is most important to you and go with that.

For what it's worth, I can't think of a single bean I've ever gotten from any supplier that I thought I paid too much for. Probably because I shop for the beans that make the coffee I want to drink. I'd much rather drink quality coffee than cheap coffee.

OK, Klatch does have some expensive varieties.  But, wait a minute, if you're complaining about a few of their varieties being very expensive, you need to think, for one variety priced at 60.95 per pound, plus 10.70 for Priority Mail shipping,  the cost of the beans brewed for an 8 ounce cup comes to only 1.50 per 8 ounce cup.  If you go to Star-$$$, I believe you'll pay the same for a small plain coffee, and you'll still be at a dollar or more at a lot of other places. Roasting and brewing at home doesn't really add much to the cost of that cup from those expensive beans since you've already got the equipment for your cheaper bean roasting, and electricity for processing to roast and brew is also an insignificant cost.  You're buying coffee in restaurants that would figure out to $30 - $40 - $50, per pound, so why not splurge a bit and try some of these premium priced beans?

And on top of that, shipping to me on the East Coast is mind-boggling expensive ($18 for a 7 lb package!

My recent order from Klatch was in a Priority box, contained 6 pounds and could have held at least 3, maybe 4 more pounds, and cost only 10.70.  Likely the price you quoted was UPS or Fed-X.  Priority mail is usually prompt for delivery time, even across the country.  My order was placed on the weekend and it was in my hands by Thursday, California to Michigan.

This purchase from Klatch contained a pound of the Panama Esmerelda Mario San Jose Geisha, for the family holiday dinner.  They've had a few specials recently, either free shipping over $50 or 10% off the bean order.  What better time to try some of these?

I live in NE PA a order from klatch placed on sunday so its picked and ships on monday reaches me by friday.Looking for a supplier that was closer I recently placed a order with happy mug thats only 160 miles away and took 3 days after it shipped. my opinion, Although I saved a few dollars beans were far more inferior than any I have tried thus far from klatch,SM,burmans, captains. You get what you pay for.

Hi, what would be est  cost to purchase 1/2 a sack I am paying over $120.00 for 20 LBS looking for high quality beans for a fair price, maybe I should start buying in larger quanitys if I can get a little break, also I didn,t know Atlas would sell to the consumer. I am going threw about 5 lbs a week roasting for us and family members. Just picked up 20 lbs of new crop Congo washed Aribica Kivu 3, for $80.00 give it a try and see what happens report on it that it will take the heat very well getting into the darker roasts  figure I would blend 75% Brazil 25% Congo. From what I have read the Congo coffee processing have improved allot compared to the past years from a war torn country.  looking forward to trying it.
