I'm thinking about going with Roastmasters since they offer free shipping and coffee.
On a lark, I plugged in my FR a few minutes ago and the coil got hot and the blower started blowing. I grabbed some coffee, took it outside (turned it off first) and went to roast. What a tease. Nothing. Turned it on again, no coil, no blower. Feh.

I roasted with a FreshRoast+8 for two years before I replaced it with a Behmor. I have just passed my 100th roast on the Behmor, most of them 10 oz, and could not be happier.
However, I suggest you get a Kill-a-Watt Meter ($20) which can be used with your FR, to confirm that it does (or doesn't) work and you can also use it on the Behmor to get feedback on how your roast is progressing.

I see a couple used Gene roasters on eBay going for about the same (at the moment) as a used Behmor. Is there an advantage to a Gene or should I stick with my plan of going with a Behmor???

I have a Behmor for sale with about 40 roasts on it since I purchased from Sweet Maria's back in October of last year. Just picked up a used Hottop on ebay so the Behmor has to go. Regular scheduled maintenance/cleaning with Simple Green every 5 roasts. Currently on craigslist in the Denver area.

Well, germantownrob, I think I might just have to listen to your advice. I see a GC on ebay for my $300 price range and if its still there when I finish this post, victory shall be mine.
While it has been fun roasting with the borrowed Melitta Aromaroast, it will be nice to have a new roaster.
Hey, rob, have you had old city coffee roasters coffee? I like their reading blend.
