I've done about 400 roasts so far with my Behmor, and at least half of them have featured an initial crack (single bean) that precedes the onset of first crack by thirty seconds to a minute. Is this something others have experienced? Is it a reflection of bean age or lot?

Sometimes it's a bean that's escaped from the drum, sometimes one that's gotten stuck in the mesh, but almost always there's an outlier. No biggie, as far as I'm concerned.

Another PSA, but keep a close eye on those escapees - they can erupt into little ignition sources with surprising suddenness. Especially if you hear them drop (I get REALLY attentive if I hear that little "tink" of an undersized bean dropping into the tray).
