I would love to hear from anyone who had a HotTop and later moved up to an electric Toper Cafemino.

While you wait for that answer, here is a thread when I was making my mind up, a lot of useful tid bits about different roasters. "Question(s) on Toper Cafemino 1KG Roaster & Diedrich IR-1"

A few years back when I was shopping for a 1kg machine the Cafemino did not have control over the heat for gas or electric, briefly looking at the specs now it appear both and electric have digital heat control.

Yes, the Cafemino has digital temp controls coupled to an automatic Honeywell gas valve.

To the OP:

I agree with Rob.  A large(r) drum will not automatically produce good roasts.  It is all about the attention to the roast that counts, in machines large or small.  Anything that can be repeated at the kilo size batch can be repeated at the quarter kilo batch size.  The profiles are going to differ but the end result can be excellent or shyte depending on.............

Don't get dollars down the road with a larger roaster and have a picky neighbor shut you down, is my primary caution.

Yeah.... I think I need to re-think this a bit.  I still like the idea of being able to roast larger quanities of coffee. I also love the build quality of the Toper brand.  Their roasters look really solid.... old school which really appeals to me.   But for now I guess I will be happy with the HotTop.  I may look inot the mod that was describer earlier to get more accurate roasting.

Thank you for your reply,

Rob

Hottop is still working on a larger model. Form what I know, it is close. Don't want to guess because of the number of times wrong guesses have been made (not by me) and it causes negative rumors to fly. I will say that things are looking up in this regard though.

I will be one of the first in line for that product!

I would love for HotTop SUA to implement some sort of computer driven interface so we could really profile on the HotTop.  AS it is now it involves drilling and messing about to get a system that works with the HotTop.  I would love to see it all contained within a comerical unit that has a USB port built right into the roaster.  All you do is plug and play!!
