I found a convection oven on Craigslist for $20 so I decided to go ahead and get it and a stir crazy. I remember reading somewhere that you should disable the Stir Crazy's heating element and just use the CO's heat. Is this the general consensus? Is it recommended? Just looking for some advice.

Here's a link to a great site put together by Woz, the "inventer" of the Woz chaff collection system for the turbocrazys. You'll find some great info on there on putting together your roaster. I personally never moded the stir arms on mine and had good results. http://turbocrazy.atspace.com/index.htm
BTW I found that a standard 1/4" wingnut fit the center shaft on mine just right. I wonder if different machines are different as different people have reported using different threads, mostly metric, with success- or sometimes not. If you use the correct nut the original center shaft will hold up much longer. (Some have forced a close but not quite nut on and before long had to replace the shaft).
