I've noticed that the heating element in the top (the little square box) stays on quite a ways into the cooling cycle. Is this normal? It would cool much faster without that element running.

Hello,
I am not sure what you mean by "the heating element in the top (the little square box)". The only 2 heating element in the behmor are the 2 long tubes at the back of the roasting chamber, that are protected by a chrome grid.
Are you talking about the smoke suppression device, that is outside the behmor, behind the unit and toward the top, which is a stainless steal piece, with a square shape, and several holes in it?

No it's an approx. 3-4 inch square built into the ceiling in the front next to the light and it glows and throws heat for 3-4 minutes into cooling cycle.

I checked tonight when I came home, and I never noticed this third heating element before, sorry for the confusion! I'll keep an eye on it this weekend during the weekly roast, it will keep me busy for the 20 min roast :-)

When I had my Behmor fire I completely ruined my afterburner. While the roaster works without a properly working afterburner, I got in touch with Behmor and they arranged a replacement afterburner for me. I was able to take note of the afterburner's function in the roast process. Without it the roast seemed to take longer and there was more inconsistency in the beans. Completely the opposite with the afterburner. Totally necessary.

I've had the afterburner in both my behmors break. after a while with use it seems the weld breaks on the wire where its attaches to the screw, easy enough to fix just bend the wire under the screw and tighten it down. never had to replace either one.
