I have been experimenting a lot of different beans for my drip coffee but I keep coming back to Guatemalan. Any bean I try from this region ends up being my favourite (as well as everyone else in my house).
Any other orgins with a similar flavour profile I should be trying? Thanks.
When I think of Guatemalan, I think high grown Bourbon varietal. Bourbon from El Salvador is most similar for me, but generally a bit less intensity and complexity than the Guatemalan. This makes an excellent choice for Espresso (SO or Blend) as well.
A perfect example is this El Salvador Siberia Bourbon at Sweet Maria's.
The Siberia is in; mild/soft and simple, nice creamy body, understated balanced character, chocolate & nuts. This can work for straight SO espresso, very mild in cappuccino. This will bring foundation and structure to espresso blends; great alternative to Brazil. For drip brews, you may want more intensity and character. A lighter lively roast would work too.

I have been drinking the Finca Buena Vista for the last few weeks, but it was from 2 years ago (stored in Foodsaver vac bags). It is good - very balanced. Nothing spectacular - just a nice smooth coffee. I prefer brighter coffees normally but it is a nice change.
The Siberia is one of my all time favorites. Just picked up 5 pounds.

I've got my green bean inventory 'situation' under control for the last couple years; past crops are out. Having the same bean year after year, the fresh crop is always better. These washed Bourbons tend to age well for up to a year though.
Now I am stocked for the crop year of Central Bourbons.... If Tom had put the San Diego up when he got it in June (instead of waiting till last week) it would be in my stash.
Maybe I will figure out a way to justify/use 5-10lbs.
