I got my dad to bring me down his heat gun so I can use it for coffee roasting.
It's a Wagner Model# 0283015 and all i've found out about it online is that it has a minimum temperature of 850 degrees.
Will this work? and if it does, is there a "recommended" dog bowl style? How do you use it? It seemed the last time i saw an HG/DB set up, there were two bowls?

It sounds like it is plenty hot. I don't know what sort of airflow it has. It's worth trying. I'd recommend a small batch to start, say a half cup of green. If that works well, try increasing the batch size by a half cup.
I don't use a dogbowl but a mesh colander. I don't think the vessel is super critical under normal conditions. The main thing is that it's easy to stir the beans and big enough so the beans don't fall out.

I just got back from garage sales, i got a hurricane lamp for my popcorn popper, fits perfectly. And i also got a mixing bowl, i'm going to put a colander in that and the beans in that. I'll try about 2/3 cup with the HG/DB method tonight.

I put a mesh colander inside a non-slip dog bowl. /\___/\ I have a large setup for 8 - 16 oz batches, and a smaller setup for 2 - 6 oz batches. I bought both the large and small non-slip dog bowls from Target. I then have two differently sized mesh colanders. I stir with a wooden spatula.
The rubber ring around the bottom of the non-slip dog bowl lets me stir as hard as I like without inadvertantly moving the setup around the table.
Jim's right. It doesn't really matter what vessel you use. You will learn to get consistent with whatever you have. After a few batches, you will learn how your particular setup acts.
With the HG/DB method, remember to think about how to cool your beans quickly, near where you are roasting. If you keep your batches at 12 oz or under, it is easy to lift the mesh colander out of the dog bowl, hold it next to a regular table fan, and stir well. Over 12 oz, and it is nice to have a vacuum cleaner turbo cooler setup.
Good luck. Report in often.

First experiment: about 1 cup in a colander inside a mixing bowl. I'm an idiot and the colander had a plastic ring which started to melt, so i dumped the beans into the bowl and kept going. I didn't have a timer, but i think it went just about right. Very even roast, pictures to come.

since this is the closest thing to the "whats going on in my coffee life right now" post for me, I'm going to say what my mom got me from Europe. A can of Lucaffe coffee (it has a cool looking guy on the tin), a Lucaffe Espresso Cup (same guy is on it) it's an imitation of an illy cup (thick), and a Bodum Christal Espresso cup with metal saucer (can't remember what they're called)
